Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Raza Ayoob ("we", "us", "our") collects when you visit raza-ayoob.com or shop.raza-ayoob.com, join our mailing list, or buy a book, and what we do with it. It covers both sites: raza-ayoob.com, where the work is published, and shop.raza-ayoob.com, where orders are taken.
We are a one-person publishing operation. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.
Information we collect
When you buy a book: your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, phone number if you give one, order contents, and the last four digits and card type of your payment method. We never see or store your full card number — payment details go directly to our payment processor.
When you join the mailing list: your email address, the date you signed up, and which page you signed up from.
When you email us: whatever you choose to include in your message.
Automatically, when you browse: your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, the pages you view, and how long you spend on them.
Cookies and tracking
Both of our sites use cookies and similar technologies. Some are strictly necessary — they keep your cart contents and your session working, and without them the store cannot function. Others are analytics cookies that tell us how the sites are used.
We use Klaviyo for our mailing list and for understanding how people move through the site. Klaviyo sets a cookie called __kla_id that holds an anonymous identifier. Before you give us your email address, this identifier is not linked to your name — it simply lets us see that the same browser returned. If you later subscribe or place an order, that earlier activity is associated with your profile, so we can see, for example, that someone who signed up in September went on to order the book. If you do not subscribe, the identifier is never connected to a person we can name.
Shopify sets its own cookies on shop.raza-ayoob.com for cart, checkout, fraud prevention and store analytics.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of our email tracking by unsubscribing. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent checkout from working.
How we use your information
- To take, pack, ship and confirm your order, and to handle returns.
- To answer your questions and provide support.
- To send you marketing emails about the book, new work and exhibitions, where you have asked to receive them.
- To understand how the sites are used so we can improve them.
- To detect and prevent fraud, and to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
If you are in the EU or UK, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (processing your order), your consent (marketing emails and non-essential cookies), our legitimate interests (site analytics, fraud prevention, and running a small business), and legal obligation (tax records).
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers we need to run the store, and only for that purpose:
- Shopify — our store platform, checkout, and order management.
- Shopify Payments and Shop Pay — payment processing and fraud screening.
- Klaviyo — mailing list, email delivery, and onsite analytics.
- Cargo — hosting for raza-ayoob.com.
- Shipping carriers including UPS, USPS and DHL, and Shopify's international shipping partner where applicable — to deliver your order and, where required, to clear it through customs.
- Apple iCloud — our email is hosted there, so correspondence you send us is stored on it.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or to protect our rights. If the business is ever sold or transferred, customer information may transfer with it.
International transfers
We are based in the United States, and our providers process data in the United States and elsewhere. If you are in the EU, UK or another region with data transfer rules, your information will be transferred outside your country. Where required, these transfers are made under Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard offered by the provider.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as we need them for tax, accounting and warranty purposes — generally seven years. Mailing list data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics data is kept for up to two years.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can email us to ask for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time using the link at the bottom of any email — it takes effect immediately and we will not email you again except about an order you have placed.
If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to object to or restrict processing, the right to data portability, the right to withdraw consent at any time, and the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, and we do not process it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
To exercise any of these rights, write to info@raza-ayoob.com. We may need to verify your identity before we act, and we will respond within the time your law allows.
Security
Payments are encrypted in transit and handled by our payment processor; we never hold your full card details. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Services are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy to reflect changes in how we work or in the law. The current version is always on this page with its date at the top.
